PURPOSE: To support African American Ware County high school students in their scholastic endeavors, personal development, and community engagement.

AWARD COMPONENTS: This is the inaugural Youth S.T.E.M. Community Leader Scholarship. These students must have maintained high academic achievement and exhibited exemplary leadership in their school and community. The recipients will be students with a sound record of achievement in his or her studies and have outstanding school citizenship. In addition, this student must enroll as a major in a S.T.E.M. field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).

AWARD AMOUNT: A $500 Scholarship will be awarded to selected applicants entering a four-year post-secondary institution, technical college, or community college in the fall.

AWARD CRITERIA:

  1. Applicants must be a senior enrolled at Ware County High School.

  2. Applicants must be a senior level student as defined through credit hours at his/her respective high school.

  3. Applicants must enroll as a major in a S.T.E.M. subject (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)

  4. Applicants must show a proven record of academic excellence.

  5. Applicants must have been accepted at a post-secondary institution.

  6. Applicants must have a minimum, cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

  7. Applicants must be of African American or Black descent.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

The application must be submitted via email to [email protected]. Applicants must complete the online application at the bottom of this page and upload the following items as a part of the online application:

  1. Two (2) character references in the form of a letter of recommendation.

  2. A copy of the most recent transcript with cumulative Grade Point Average.

  3. Personal Essay. Details regarding the personal essay are listed below.

The applicant’s name must be saved in the title of each file prior to uploading the attachments.

DEADLINE for the application is Friday, May 12, 2023. Applications received after this date will not be considered. Emailed or incomplete applications will not be considered.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Scholarship recipients will be announced during the 2023 Ware County High School Senior Honor Night.

PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP: Winners are required to submit proof of full-time study at a 4-year college. Once this information is received, the scholarship committee will provide payment in one or more installments to the student.
